OpenStack

OpenStack is a platform that is used to implement private clouds in an enterprise that helps in cost-cutting by efficiently using the available hardware to meet the needs of dynamic requirements of various internal teams.

OpenStack is built from microservices which can be changed based on the need of the software. Services communicate with each other and are responsible for various functions within the OpenStack environment.

Openstack controls large pools of compute, storage, and networking resources, all managed through APIs or a dashboard.

Beyond standard infrastructure-as-a-service functionality, additional components provide orchestration, fault management and service management amongst other services to ensure high availability of user applications.

These microservices can do anything from the actual compute services, like Nova, to object storage, like Swift, to many others.
